Public Library Reviews

Like buses, two reviews of public libraries have come along at once. At the Public Library Authorities conference in Liverpool today (09 October 2008) Andy Burnham the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport announced a 'Modernisation review' of public libraries. You can find the official press release here (in a new window)

Meantime Lyn Brown, the Chair of the Parliamentary All Party Library, Literacy and Information Group announced a review into the leadership and governance of libraries. Her speech is too long to reproduce but if and when we get a link to it we will put it up.

The Library Campaign has written to Barbara Follett (recently taken over from Margaret Hodge as the minister responsible for libraries) who is leading the DCMS review and to Lyn Brown ,offering our support and assistance with both reviews. More news when we have it.
