Public Library Standards

You can now check if your local authority chose libraries among its official priorities for this year. A link (in a new window)on the local government department website enables you to read the full list of local priorities chosen by each local council

Few councils are likely to choose libraries to focus on. They have to choose about 35 from a list of 198 'national indicators' supplied by central government (plus some education targets still enforced by central government). All national indicators will be measured, but only the priority ones chosen will get a lot of attention. Clever library users, however, will be able to spot a public library role in many of the priorities chosen. Activities for youth? Quality of life for older people? Health information resource? You get the idea...

Public library Standards

We have removed the reference to the Public library Standards since these have been abolished by central government. Instead library authorities in England can come up with their own although there are national 'tools' which can in theory be used for inter-authority comparisons.
