Public Library Reviews

Like buses, two reviews of public libraries have come along at once. At the Public Library Authorities conference in Liverpool in October 2008 Andy Burnham the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport announced a 'Modernisation review' of public libraries. You can find the official press release here It now appaears likely that this review will not report till July 2009

Meantime Lyn Brown, the Chair of the Parliamentary All Party Library, Literacy and Information Group announced a review into the leadership and governance of libraries. Her original speech is too long to reproduce but follow the link above to her speech to the Campaign AGM in May 2009 summarising where they ahd got to by then.

The Library Campaign had a meeting with the civil servant leading the DCMS review and was invited to a round table discusison by Lyn Brown. More news when we have it. Meantime UNISON has published its submission to the enquiry.
